A trail within the journal

The John Muir
Trail Journal.

A day-by-day record of a trail we walked together—preserving the places, photographs, difficult miles, small graces, and lessons we carried home.

Introduction

A Personal Record
of the Journey.

Our journey on the John Muir Trail was one of the most meaningful experiences Lynlee and I have ever shared. We loved the adventure itself—the miles, the mountains, and the incredible beauty—but even more, we loved experiencing it together and sharing the joy of what we accomplished.

In many ways, the trip felt like the culmination of years spent adventuring together, growing together, and learning to follow Jesus together. The trail offered an extraordinary challenge filled with unexpected moments, each one weaving into a joyful, unforgettable journey with absolutely no regrets.

Every step, every climb, every challenge, and every moment of God’s provision reminded us that we are part of an even greater journey of faith—one that continues to unfold day by day for His glory and our good.

There were moments of deep emotion along the way, especially when we stood on the summit of Mount Whitney and again when we reached the end of the trail. Both carried a weight of gratitude, accomplishment, and awe that is difficult to describe.

Standing on the highest point in the contiguous United States, I was overwhelmed with joy. I could hardly believe we had completed the John Muir Trail—and at the same time, I could hardly believe it was over. I felt a rare combination of complete satisfaction and an immediate longing for more. I was deeply grateful for what we had accomplished together, yet already looking forward to our next adventure.

What made this journey so meaningful was not simply reaching the finish. It was everything that happened along the way.

We learned to look back over the miles behind us—the valleys, mountain passes, lakes, rivers, and long stretches of trail—and see not merely the distance we had covered, but the memories forged through challenge, perseverance, laughter, and shared joy.

We also learned to look ahead—to the next climb, the next valley, and the next unknown stretch of trail—with anticipation rather than dread. The very difficulties we knew were coming would become the experiences we would later cherish most.

This journal is our attempt to capture both journeys: the physical miles we walked and the deeper spiritual lessons God faithfully taught us along the way. We invite you to come along as we recount our John Muir Trail adventure.
